Parent-Mediated Interventions
Helping Parents Become Their Child's Greatest Teacher
Every parent wants to know how to help their child succeed—not just during therapy, but throughout everyday life.
At Hickory Learning Group, we believe parents and caregivers are the most important people in a child's development. That's why our Parent-Mediated Intervention (PMI) program focuses on empowering families with the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills needed to create meaningful learning opportunities during everyday routines.
Our clinicians don't simply work with your child—we work alongside you.
Together, we'll build the tools and confidence you need to support your child's growth long after our services have ended.
What Are Parent-Mediated Interventions?
Parent-Mediated Interventions are an evidence-based service where a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) coaches parents and caregivers to use behavior analytic strategies during everyday interactions with their child.
Instead of therapy happening only during scheduled sessions, learning becomes part of family life.
Whether you're preparing breakfast, playing in the backyard, visiting the grocery store, or getting ready for bed, everyday routines become opportunities to strengthen communication, independence, social skills, and confidence.
Because the most meaningful learning happens in the moments families already share together.
What Does a Session Look Like?
Every Parent-Mediated Intervention session is individualized to your family's goals, routines, and priorities.
Your BCBA may:
Observe everyday interactions between you and your child.
Demonstrate evidence-based teaching strategies.
Coach you through real-life situations as they happen.
Provide immediate feedback and encouragement.
Help problem-solve challenges together.
Develop practical strategies that fit naturally into your family's daily routine.
Celebrate progress while planning for continued success between visits.
Our coaching is collaborative, supportive, and designed to help you feel confident—not overwhelmed.
Learning Happens Where Life Happens
We believe children learn best in the environments where they naturally live, play, and grow.
That's why Parent-Mediated Interventions often take place during activities such as:
Morning and bedtime routines
Mealtime
Playtime
Community outings
Grocery shopping
Parks and playgrounds
Family activities
Sibling interactions
Homework and daily responsibilities
Rather than creating additional work for families, we help transform the routines you're already doing into meaningful learning opportunities.
Why Families Choose Parent-Mediated Interventions
Our Parent-Mediated Intervention program helps families:
Better understand their child's behavior.
Build communication during everyday interactions.
Increase independence with daily living skills.
Reduce challenging behaviors using proactive strategies.
Strengthen family routines.
Improve participation in home and community activities.
Feel more confident supporting their child's development.
As caregivers grow in confidence, children benefit from more consistent learning opportunities throughout the week—not just during therapy sessions.
Our Coaching Philosophy
We believe parents are experts on their child.
We bring expertise in the science of behavior.
When those two forms of knowledge come together, extraordinary things can happen.
Our role isn't to replace parents.
Our role is to coach, encourage, and empower families so they feel confident creating meaningful change in everyday life.
Measuring Success
Success isn't measured by how much a parent remembers during a coaching session.
Success is measured by what families feel confident doing when the clinician isn't there.
Throughout services, we monitor caregiver confidence, implementation, and progress while celebrating every step toward greater independence.
Because when caregivers grow, children have more opportunities to learn.
Is Parent-Mediated Intervention Right for Your Family?
Parent-Mediated Interventions may be a great fit if you:
Want to take an active role in your child's development.
Are looking for practical strategies you can use every day.
Prefer learning within your natural routines.
Want individualized coaching from an experienced BCBA.
Are preparing for school, community participation, or greater independence.
Want to build lasting skills that continue beyond therapy.
Whether your child is just beginning services or transitioning toward greater independence, our team will meet you where you are and help you move forward with confidence.
Our Goal
At Hickory Learning Group, we don't measure success by how long families stay in therapy.
We measure success by how confident they become.
Because when parents have the knowledge, skills, and support they need, children gain something even more valuable than therapy—
They gain a lifetime of opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive with the people who know and love them most.
